Eclipse colourways

Hey gang! Just a quick note about something new that's going on in today's update...Eclipse colourways are happening!

Eclipse colourways are all one-offs, whatever I post will be all there is. They are all the result of some fun new experimentation that I've been up to. I've been working away on new colourways, techniques and ideas - as a result, some pretty funky colours have been emerging from my pots. So if you happen to love an Eclipse colourway in today's update, grab it because it won't be around again!

The goal of all my crazy witch experimentation (I've been imagining myself as a Macbeth witch throughout all this) is going to be some exciting new colourways and more consistent results too!

Here's a selection of Eclipse colourways in Merino Lace that are going to be in the update later on today.

In other news, I goofed slightly on the weight of Merino Singles 4 ply! The yarn information is now updated on Ravelry, Etsy as well as the tags. So the correct weight and yardage for Merino Singles 4 ply is actually 115g 434 meters (475 yards). Sorry for the mix up folks, but great news - your skeins have more yarn in them that you thought, huzzah!

See you @ 4pm EST for some yarny (witchy) fun!

I Almost Kept This...

It crossed my mind today as I was photographing yarn, that I truly do want to keep almost all of the yarn that I dye (suppose that's good thing!) So I've decided to start a little blog 'segment' that I am calling...

 'I Almost Kept This'

all of the following yarns that I almost kept are going to be appearing in the upcoming shop update!

Everyone who knows me, or perhaps even has just spoken to me for a few moments has likely heard me going on about how much I love pink. Well, I do. I love pink. And this colour of Polwarth and Alpaca was almost knit into a Quill shawl (by me), until I decided to knit the same pattern in a dark, truffle colour...equally beautiful, but not quite so pink. For anyone who is curious, I've called this colour 'PINK'.

A second colour of Polwarth and Alpaca that nearly missed the update is 'Lemongrass'. Perhaps I love this one because spring has arrived and reminded me that I love bright colours, fresh growth and warm days. I'm also thinking that as bright as this colour may be, I want to combine it with almost every other colour out there! I've held it up against all the other Polwarth and Alpaca colours from this update (because that's what I do when I'm supposed to be labeling) and I think it looks great with just about all of them.

Next up, Merino Singles 4 ply. it's a batch of 'Aurora Borealis'. A colour that I'm still playing around with a little bit - so that means each batch is a surprise to me. I did a little dance when that bright, speckly patch of rust and chartreuse and...whatever else emerged. How exciting!? The best bit for me is the way those bright colours jump out from the subtle and soft background of warm gray / mauve.

My last favourite from this update is a couple colours in  M / C / N Worsted. Oh my, these were the toughest to let go of. On the right is 'Ice Berg', or so it is called. I'm crazy about this colour! A soft, cool, icy base with bright hints of colour. Of course, I am imagining a slightly magical, iridescent ice berg here. As one does. And lastly, this purple/browny colour is called 'Space Dust'. I never can turn down a dark, moody purple colour.

VIOLA shop update

Hooray, huzzah, wa hoo! The next VIOLA shop update is scheduled for...

FRIDAY MAY 29th @ 4pm EST

I've brought back another favourite from the old days of Viola - M / C / N Worsted! This yarn was always amongst my most favourite...all of them are...but I really like it, OK! I love it's super high twist and springiness, the way it grabs a hold of the dye, creating saturated and interesting colours, and I love that it knits up super-fast - that's a lot of things to love!

I've dyed up a fair bit of the lovely M / C / N Worsted, and done my very best to ensure that there are garment worthy amounts in most colours. I have also done a splendid job of not hanging onto all of it for myself...which tends to be my initial reaction.

Also in the update will be Merino Lace and Merino Singles 4 Ply as well as the last bit of Polwarth and Alpaca that I'll have for a little while, so grab it while you can!

finished laila

Last week my skilled camera friend Jeremy spent the day hanging out and managed to take some photos of me in my new laila jumper. He succeeded where so many others have failed to take a pictures of me with both my eyes open! It's a special gift that I have...pulling a dumb face and closing one eye exactly when the camera goes. Anyhoo, here's the jumper! I still love it and wear it every day, in spite of the climbing temperatures here in Toronto.
